Cambridge Massachusetts - The "City of Squares"
The city of Cambridge is considered to be part of the Greater Boston metropolis. The city is also the fifth most populated city in the state. According to the 2000 census, the city population was 101,355. The city is best known for its world renowned educational institution better known as Harvard University. The city is also known as the “City of Squares” since the city is divided into small square sections.
Cambridge overall seems to be a bright city with 201 sunny days in a year. Summers tend to be warm with high temperatures in the low to mid 80s. July would be considered the hottest month of the year. January is considered to be the coolest month of the year with low temperatures in the 20s. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year with November being the wettest month of the year.
Historic Buildings and the Six Largest Art Collection in Cambridge, MA
The city of Cambridge is filled with several interesting buildings. For instance, the Longfellow National Historic Site was once served as the headquarters of George Washington and was later home for the noted American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. There is also the Hopper-Lee Nichols House which is the second oldest house in Cambridge. The house now accommodates the Cambridge Historical Society which offers several tours a week. City hall is also a magnificent sight with Richardsonian Romanesque style.
The world renowned educational institution of Harvard offers several museums to the public. One of the main museums is the Harvard Art Museum which is considered to be one of the world’s leading arts institute. The museum is divided into the Fogg Museum, the Busch-Reisinger Museum, and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum. The museum also has four research centers of specific interest. The Harvard Art Museum collection is among the six largest collections in the United States.

Currently 2 hotels have completed the online Environmental Audit and earned the Green Eco-Leaf Rating while the other 4 properties are purported to be "Green" but have not yet shared their eco-initiatives with iStayGreen.org.
In Cambridge there are 16 properties where the environmentally friendliness is unknown and they have not yet verified their sustainability efforts with iStayGreen.org. In the state of Massachusetts there is a total of 608 lodging properties listed in the iStayGreen.org directory of which 67 are represented as eco-friendly. Currently there are 11 lodging properties that have earned the Green Eco-Leaf Rating. Included in the properties working toward a more sustainable travel future are Cambridge hotels, Cambridge resorts, Cambridge bed & breakfasts, and Cambridge extended stay accommodations.
