Estes Park is located only 10 minutes away from the entrances to the Rocky Mountains National Park. It is considered a high mountain valley. According to the 2006 census, the estimated population for the city was 6,006. The city has become a popular summer resort and the unofficial control center for the Rocky Mountain National Park.
