Grand Rapids Michigan - The City on the Banks of the Legendary Grand River
Grand Rapids is the second largest city in the state of Michigan and considered one of the principle cities in the West Michigan area. The city is located on the banks of the famous Grand River. The city is known for its small-town ambience and unique urban sophistication. As of the 2000 census, the city’s population was 197,800.
Grand Rapids is warm during the summer when temperatures tend to be in the low 70’s. The month of July is considered to be the warmest month of the year. During the winter, temperature can drop in the low 20’s and snow is common. Grand Rapids is one of the cities in the United States that receives the most snow with an average of 72 inches of snow a year.
A Presidential Museum and Majestic Gardens in Grand Rapids, MI
One of the most cultural attractions in the Grand Rapids city is the General R. Ford Presidential Museum. The museum has a core of permanent exhibits that allow visitors to participate in history. The museum also offers several other attractions like the 1940’s fashion show and activities for school children. The museum is implements hands-on activities that are interactive and educational for all ages.
The Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is a 132-acre botanical garden and outdoor sculpture park located in the Grand Rapids Township. The garden is an emerging cultural destination. It is considered the second largest tourist attraction in Michigan. The gardens include a five-story facility featuring rock landscapes and several plant selections. The facility also includes the nation’s most comprehensive carnivorous plant house. The Sculpture Park features important works of art within a natural setting connected by waterways, meandering paths and quiet walkways.
