The city is filled with rich history and entertainment. In the 2000 census, the year round population was 33,862 while during the summertime the city is estimated to have a population 275,000.

July and August are considered be the hottest months in the year with ranging temperatures in the 80s. Overall, the island is considered to have a subtropical climate.

The Coastal Discovery Museum offers a variety of programs. The museum also offers several activities that are either indoor or outdoor year round. There also 11 available tours and cruises around the island to chose from. The island is filled with a vast range of wildlife which includes alligators, deer, dolphins, Loggerhead Sea Turtles, hundreds of species of birds.
Hilton Head Island is also a showcase for performing and visual arts. The city also has several cultural festivals and educational functions year long. There are several community education programs such as Visual and Performing Arts Camps, Theater Camp, and other workshops and classes. All of these programs are provided by the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.
