Monterey California – A Diving Experience
The City of Monterey runs along the coast of Central California. The city of Monterey served as the capital of California from 1777 to 1849. The city has received recognition from the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, the annual Monterey Jazz Festival, and Fisherman's Wharf. In 2005, the city population was 30,641.
Monterey’s climate is regulated by the Pacific Ocean. Summer days are quite pleasant with average temperatures in the 70’s and during winter temperatures average in the 60’s. Snow in Monterey is extremely rare making the city a great place all year long.
Aquariums, Scuba Diving, and other Great Activities – Within Monterey, CA
Monterey is home to one of the largest marine science laboratories. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of the nation’s most renowned aquariums available to the public. The sea life in Monterey city attracts scuba divers of all abilities ranging from novice to expert. A popular location for scuba classes is San Carlos State Beach.
A popular park in Monterey is the Lake El Estero Park. The park consists of several recreational activities such as paddle boats, a skate park, baseball diamond, and a special Dennis the Menace Park zone. The park also includes a donated 1924 locomotive steam engine. The park is also known for hosting several migrating birds.

Currently 2 hotels have completed the online Environmental Audit and earned the Green Eco-Leaf Rating while the other 2 properties are purported to be "Green" but have not yet shared their eco-initiatives with iStayGreen.org.
In Monterey there are 52 properties where the environmentally friendliness is unknown and they have not yet verified their sustainability efforts with iStayGreen.org. In the state of California there is a total of 3965 lodging properties listed in the iStayGreen.org directory of which 425 are represented as eco-friendly. Currently there are 177 lodging properties that have earned the Green Eco-Leaf Rating. Included in the properties working toward a more sustainable travel future are Monterey hotels, Monterey resorts, Monterey bed & breakfasts, and Monterey extended stay accommodations.
