The city of Scottsdale is located on the eastern part of Maricopa County. The city is considered to be an upscale tourist and shopping destination for many. The New York Times described downtown Scottsdale as "a desert version of Miami's South Beach". According to the 2007 census, the city has an estimated population of 240,410.
The city of Scottsdale is considered to have an arid climate due to its very hot summers. Winters are considerably mild with temperatures in the high 60’s. Summers are a whole different thing. Temperatures can reach over 110 degrees. June and August are considered to be the warmest months of the year with average temperatures as high as 119 degrees. Water and sun block are strongly recommended.
Scottsdale Arts Festival and the Greatest Car Show on Earth in Scottsdale AZ
The city of Scottsdale is known nationally for its art and cultural facilities. One of the city’s main art events is the Scottsdale Arts Festival. American Style Magazine has ranked the festival as the number one event of its kind. The festival is three days long and features more than 200 pre-selected artists. The artists display their work for sale. The festival also has plenty of live entertainment and live music. Admission is free to the event.
The city of Scottsdale is also home to the largest and most well-attended auto auctions; the Barrett-Jackson Auto Show. The event is a week long and has over 225,000 spectators. The show also has over 4,500 bidders that register for the event. The auction includes automobiles, motorcycles, airplanes, and trucks.

Scottsdale has 72 hotels listed in the iStayGreen directory of which 10 are listed as environmentally friendly lodging. Currently 6 hotels have completed the online Environmental Audit and earned the Green Eco-Leaf Rating while the other 4 properties are purported to be "Green" but have not yet shared their eco-initiatives with iStayGreen.org.
In Scottsdale there are 62 properties where the environmentally friendliness is unknown and they have not yet verified their sustainability efforts with iStayGreen.org. In the state of Arizona there is a total of 833 lodging properties listed in the iStayGreen.org directory of which 73 are represented as eco-friendly. Currently there are 43 lodging properties that have earned the Green Eco-Leaf Rating. Included in the properties working toward a more sustainable travel future are Scottsdale hotels, Scottsdale resorts, Scottsdale bed & breakfasts, and Scottsdale extended stay accommodations.
