Spokane Washington - "Lilac City"
The city of Spokane is located on the Spokane River and is on the south of the Canadian border. It is the largest city in Spokane County. The city is also the second largest city in Washington. The city’s nickname is officially the “Lilac City” after the flourishing flowers introduced in the 20th century. According to the 2007 census, the city has an estimated population of 200,975.
The city is considered to have a continental climate. Summers are warm with temperatures in the mid 80’s. August is considered to be the warmest month of the year with temperatures in the mid and high 80’s. Winters are considered to have costal climate and are cool enough to maintain snow. During winter, temperatures can drop in the low 30’s. January is considered to be the coolest month of the year.
The Riverfront Park and the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane WA
One of the main attractions in the city is the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture. The museum is associated to the Smithsonian. The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture is the largest organization in the Northwest. The museum has five underground galleries, a café, community room, and education center. The museum also has a library, auditorium, and outdoor amphitheater. The museum also has its own collection with more than 68,000 objects of fine art and culture material.
The Riverfront Park is one of the most visited parks in the city. The park has more than 100 acres of fun. The park includes the Riverfront Park Carousel which contains an original 1900 Ruth and Sohn Band Organ. The park also has an IMAX theatre, a small amusement park for kids, skating rink, and a skyride. The Spokane River Centennial Trail also passes through the park.
