Grand Hyatt New York cares about leaving our future generations with a healthier planet. The first position for an Environmental Development Manager, at any Hyatt Hotel or Resort on the globe, was created this year at Grand Hyatt New York to lead the Grand Hyatt Green Apple Environmental Committee. This Committee consists of over forty green team members who are passionate about making changes for the good of the environment and their second home—the Grand Hyatt New York. Minimizing our operational impact on the environment is a major goal that has been initiated in 2008. Intensive efforts by our “Green Team” towards this goal include many projects such as improved energy and water conservation, waste reduction and recycling, sustainable purchasing, green communication and education for guests and associates, and continuous program sustainability throughout each year. Grand Hyatt New York has completed the following green standards: • Lighting dimmers in all public areas for control of energy usage. • Sensor lighting in offices. • Electronic thermostats in all guest rooms. • Front and back of the hotel use all energy efficient light bulbs. • Revolving entrance doors help maintain the building temperature. • Preventive maintenance throughout the hotel including mechanical systems. • Energy Star compliant printers used in the back of the house. • Electronic reader boards throughout meeting room floors, thereby saving on paper for signage. • Replacement and installation of energy efficient chillers at a cost of $4.8 million. • Installation of a plate and frame heat exchanger, which helps the building maintain its interior temperature without using additional electricity. • Low–flow aerators are placed throughout the property. • Automatic faucet control in public bathrooms. • Paper and cardboard recycling is done throughout the back of the house. Highlights of our Green Practices and Initiatives: Back of House: • 30 % recycled paper is purchased for office printing. • Sustainable purchasing in all departments is practiced when feasible for office supplies and products. • Ink cartridges, Styrofoam peanuts and air packaging packs are recycled.

Our associate cafeteria uses reusable cutlery and dishware. Plastic cups are used for cold drinks and all napkins are from 100% recycled content. • Associates are given the opportunity to recycle their cell phones properly at work and are shipped to the Big Cat Rescue Organization. • Grand Hyatt New York provides all associates with reusable drinking travel cups to reduce the amount of disposable cups in the cafeteria. Tote bags have also been provided to reduce the amount of plastic bags used for everyday living. In addition, a ‘GO GREEN’ bracelet is given to every associate to voluntarily wear as a message and a reminder to make environmentally conscious decisions. • We work together with local shelters and give associates the opportunity to donate clothes to the people in need in the New York community. • Associate education on environmental responsibility is practiced on a daily basis. Meeting Sales and Catering: • Special green-labeled receptacles are placed in the conference rooms for our clients to recycle paper. • Organic food is available on our banquet ‘green menus’ for catered events. • Suggestions on how to host a ‘Greener Meeting’ are available upon request. • Guest’s are given the chance to donate their meeting signs to NY schools to reuse for arts and crafts. • Recycled and FSC approved paper will be purchased for our sales kits, banquet memo pads, and marketing materials. Outlets: • Manhattan Sky restaurant and the Grand Café offer organic selections. • Commodore Grill uses Natura Water that reduces waste while still providing purifying water. Housekeeping: • Green Seal cleaning chemicals are used throughout the property. • Purchases made are done in bulk whenever possible from products to chemicals. • Donation of leftover rolls of bathroom tissue to homeless shelters is done on a weekly basis. • Perf Go Green Bio-degradable bags are being utilized by our housekeeping staff to collect all garbage. Stewarding • Apex chemicals are now in place which reduce the environmental impact by doing the following: o Reducing rack counts lower water and energy consumption. o Less packaging equals less waste. o Service and recommendations improve efficiencies to keep utility and production usage to a minimum. • Stewarding purchases potato- starch utensils and sustainable packaging is purchased for outlets and other areas of hotels.

Being certified a green hotel is a long process and we get closer everyday in meeting that goal. Grand Hyatt New York is pursuing the following certifications: • Waste Wise: EPA Program; obtained Organization Partnership Certificate August 2008. • Energy Star: EPA Program. • LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Our Mission is to incorporate environmental responsibility into our everyday operations. With the support and guidance of Hyatt Corporation’s Environmental Program, HYATT EARTH, we are all together making a positive impact on the environment. Sustainability is a continuous practice that will reduce our carbon footprint now and in the future while we continually provide our guest with the best hospitality experience.
