OUR ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
In an effort to lessen our environmental impact, the Green Mountain Inn continues to lead the charge by taking steps to become “greener” everyday. The Inn was one of the first to join the State of Vermont’s Green Hotels Program, and has recently made it a priority to take a more active role in reducing the Inn’s carbon footprint.
The Inn partnered with Middlebury College to create a master plan intended to lessen our environmental impact. The goal of the plan is to make responsible and environmentally friendly business practices an integral part of our business identity. Other fundamental goals of the initiative are to support and encourage the growth of local agriculture and local business throughout the extensive use of locally produced products and to promote the importance of sustainability.
The Green Mountain Inn has various green programs already in place such as the towel re-use program, recycling containers in guest accommodations and a composting program, to name a few. The Inn recognizes the importance of sustainability and intends to expand these programs to include changes in the way the resort does business taking into account how each decision affects the environment.
Some of our goals for the coming year include phasing out all incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent ones, replacing appliances with Energy Star appliances, purchasing recycled paper products, utilizing green guest amenities eliminating more than 80,000 plastics bottles per year and purchasing local food from local farms. The Inn also joined the Vermont Fresh Network, a community that encourages farmers, food producers and chefs to work directly with each other to help build stronger more sustainable communities.
Please join us in making this world a wonderful environment for the many generations to come.
