To qualify for the Green Eco-Leaf Rating Residence Inn Montreal Downtown completed an audit of their property's compliance with over 70 unique eco-initiatives. Environmentally friendly measures that are reviewed include energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, enviromentally safe cleaning, reduction of waste, ongoing maintenance, purchasing habits, plus many other factors. In it's efforts to create a more sustainable travel future and reduce their impact on our environment, Residence Inn Montreal Downtown employs 40 eco-initiatives.

•We recycle plastic, paper, metal, and glass. We have 2 recycle bins per guest room and have recycle bin in public spaces and administration offices. •We recycle our toner cartridges. •Linen re-use program: bed linens are changed twice a week (more when requested by customers) and of course, at check out. •Towel re-use program: towels will be washed if the guest leave them on the floor on in the bathtub. There is collateral material in every room that explains this initiative. •For un-occupied rooms, all lights are shut off in all rooms. There is also a reminder sticker to remind guests to close the lights when they are not in the room. •We have a magnet that guest can use to put on their dishwasher if they don’t want us to start it. (The standard is that we are supposed to start it when we have 7 pieces in the dishwasher.) •We use a phosphate free eco friendly dishwasher product called Bio-Vert. •Shampoo, conditioner and lotion are made with natural ingredients and not animal tested. •All our paper towels, tissue and napkin products are made with 100% recycled paper post-consumer whitened without chemicals containing chlorine. •We use brand specific “green” disinfectants and cleaning products that are effective against infectious diseases and support the continued effort of environmentally sustainable business practices. •Energy efficient light bulbs are used throughout the hotel. •Maid are trained to not use water more than necessary and to set the temperature at 20 Celsius during the winter and 23 Celsius during the summer. (Saving energy for heating and A/C.) •All our shower heads and toilets are low flow. •We buy our dish soap and all cleaning products in bulk and refill the hand bottles instead of buying new ones. •We don’t use any aerosols. •We don’t use any air scent sprays (freshener) in rooms. •We donate to a local homeless shelter; used soap bars and half empty shampoo, conditioner and lotion bottles. •We donate to local charities, we also set-up a garage sale for all our associates to purchase used sheets, toasters, microwaves, etc. and donate all proceeds. •We provide leftover food to our associates. •We use pens made with recycled plastic. •We use re-usable room keys made with recycled plastic. •We got rid of all Styrofoam containers, all coffee cups are made with recycled Styrofoam. •We use glassware, silverware and china for our buffet breakfast (no disposable plastic plates). •We use pitchers of water in meeting rooms instead of plastic bottles. •We encouraged our employees to use a reusable plastics bottle and cups. •We train and discuss green initiatives with our associates during our morning huddles and promote new ideas that they can use at home. •We have a Green information board for our associates. •We participate in the Earth Hour. •We are part of the Marriott Canada Green Council. •We save paper by scanning and send memo’s by email instead of printing it. •Front Desk associates are trained to print less and look at their daily reports on screen. •Our stationary papers are made with 30% recycled post-consumer paper. •There is a disclaimer at the bottom of our emails that says: “Do you really need to print this email? Be environmentally friendly...” •We reduced to minimum packaging our VIP gifts for our customers and use re-usable baskets. •We asked all our vendors to send us their environmental practices and policies. •Possibility to offset your carbon footprint (Marriott Initiative) : http://www.marriott.com/green-brazilian-rainforest.mi •We re-use our discarded towels for cleaning towels. •We re-use paper to make our room verification lists for housekeeping and to make notepads for general office use. •We use local suppliers as much as possible. •We have some material bags for dirty linen as opposed to plastic bags. •We've reduced our format for the cleaning chemicals from 2 gallons to 2.2L bags to reduce plastic and chemical volume. •We have energy efficient settings for our new commercial dryer to reduce electricity usage. •We donate our used room lock batteries (AA) to our associates. •We recycle our old paint (donation to Rona). •We properly recycle our burnt light bulbs. •All exterior lights are on a timer. •All ventilation motors are on a timer. •Associates are trained to close all lights in administrative offices, closets and every workspace when they are not using it. •We use vinegar instead of chemical products to perform some general cleaning tasks.
