Environmentally friendly measures that are reviewed include energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, enviromentally safe cleaning, reduction of waste, ongoing maintenance, purchasing habits, plus many other factors. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact by implementing sustainable practices as an integral part of our operations and by setting an example to other hotels in the Marriott family. We do our best to balance human health, the environment and the economy in how we approach our operations. At the Residence Inn by Marriott Portland Downtown/RiverPlace we are committed to purchasing local, sustainable products whenever possible and we are committed to seeking out vendors that have a similar statement of environmental responsibility.
All products purchased will be evaluated to determine if a local alternative is available and every effort will be made to purchase the local alternative when possible.
When purchasing consumable products, post-consumer recycled content will be evaluated and preference will be given to the products with the highest post-consumer recycled content whenever possible.
We recycle glass, aluminum, newspaper, office paper, cardboard, select plastics and metals.
We participate in Portland Composts! a food waste composting program.
Our disposable coffee cups, lids and sleeves are compostable, as well as our cold beverage cups.
Our shower heads, faucets and toilets are low-flow to save water.
We use the Pure Comfort Mineral System for sanitizing the Pool, instead of harsh chlorine.
Our printers and copier are programmed to duplex. Our copy/printer paper is made of 30% post-consumer waste and recyclable.
We have installed a Dry-O-Tron High-Efficiency Pool Heater, which also cools the room.
Water-Source Heat Pumps are in all guest rooms for heating and cooling.
We use energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs where possible throughout hotel.
We use Ecolab’s Formula 1 earth-friendly Laundry Cleaning System.
We use Green Seal-Certified cleaning products in our guest rooms and kitchen.
Guests have the option to re-use linens and towels to reduce energy and water usage in the hotel.
We have established a schedule to install occupancy sensors in all storage closets and offices.
We donate used linens to local shelters.
Our exclusive caterer also participates in Portland Composts!
Our exclusive dry cleaner uses earth-friendly products for dry-cleaning and laundry service.
