Tigh-Na-Mara has an active Green Team that does department audits each month to ensure green initiatives are being implimented. Some current initiatives are: our kitchen recycles all food waste to divert this from the landfill, we buy local products whenever possible to support local suppliers and reduce transportation of prodcuts, keep all computer monitors turned off when not in use even for a few minutes, keep office lights off when natural light allows or when the offices are unoccupied, have on-line vacation requests, schedules and pay stubs to reduce paper use, all paper is either shredded if it contains confidential information and recycled or used as scrap paper for writing messages, our checklists are laminated and we use dry erase markers rather than new paper every time, we send as many reservation confirmations by email as we can rather than printing and mailing them, our contracts and invoices are sent via email rather than printed and mailed or faxed, heating and cooling in conference rooms is monitored to ensure we are not wasting energy on empty rooms, our burnt wood from our fireplaces is given to a local artist who then uses the charcoal to sketch, use and retail organic spa products. All of this is in addition to the usual recycling of metal, plastic, paper, glass and using environmentally sound products for cleaning and laundry.
