Property Owner's Statement of Environmental Initiatives:
Property's Green Team Leader:
Rachael Solem - 617-547-4600 Mailing Address: 24 Irving Street Cambridge, MA US 02138 Irving House is a small hotel occupying a converted two family wood framed house. Our green initiatives have been developing in response to available technology since we acquired the property in 1990. Because of the small size of the property and its age and style, we do not have motion sensors in guest rooms, or regular 'green' meetings. Our staff is trained in green practices, and we keep in touch on a regular basis, but not 'officially.' Guests and staff compost breakfast refuse in a program developed in the mid Cambridge community with the assistance of the owner. The owner is co-chair of Cambridge Local First which seeks to improve both locally owned, independent businesses and sustainable operations. The owner has been for many years supportive of jitney service from the airport to area hotels to reduce the trips made by individual taxis and encourage a welcoming approach to visitors to Cambridge. The owner was one of the first buyers of a Prius in 2001, and still drives one, as the company/personal car. Our plans to install solar panels on the roof are in process. We hope to have both solar thermal for hot water production and photovoltaic for electricity use, AND a to install a place to plug in your electric car, to offer as a free amenity for our guests. |
