Environmentally friendly measures that are reviewed include energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, enviromentally safe cleaning, reduction of waste, ongoing maintenance, purchasing habits, plus many other factors. In it's efforts to create a more sustainable travel future and reduce their impact on our environment, The Grand Hotel in Salem employs 48 eco-initiatives.

We used Energy Trust of Oregon to take advantages of lighting rebates and tax credits. We are EarthWISE Certified through Marion County. Myself and one other employee are going through a Master Recycling Program. Graduating May 7th, 2009. We attach to the Salem Conference Center that is currently working towards their LEED Certification. Our restaurant, Bentleys Grill, is also EarthWISE Certified and has little to no waste in the front of house. We are working with local schools to help them obtain thier Oregon School Green Seal- and also have taking a class on the "EarthWalk" established by the Transfer Station of Marion County. Travel Salem, our local Convention and Visitors Association, and myself are working on a program to help all downtown Salem businesses become EarthWISE Certified.
