To qualify for the Green Eco-Leaf Rating Hilton Whistler Resort And Spa completed an audit of their property's compliance with over 70 unique eco-initiatives. Environmentally friendly measures that are reviewed include energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, enviromentally safe cleaning, reduction of waste, ongoing maintenance, purchasing habits, plus many other factors. In it's efforts to create a more sustainable travel future and reduce their impact on our environment, Hilton Whistler Resort And Spa employs 38 eco-initiatives.

The Hilton Whistler Resort & Spa recognizes that our activities impact the environment in which our hotel operates. We have actively been conducting an Environmental Work Program since the opening of our hotel in 2005 and are committed to continuing in this direction. As such, we are working to minimize the environmental footprint of our business through ongoing improvement of our sustainability practices and performance. Our objectives in doing so will include the reduction of emissions of greenhouse gasses, minimizing of energy consumption and the conservation of natural resources, while maintaining the comfort and safety of guests. Working at all levels of the business, from employees to suppliers and guests, we will endeavor to progressively reduce the impact of our hotel on the environment. The Hilton Whistler Resort & Spa will adopt a long-term approach to ensuring its operations work in balance with the cycles of nature, through a continuing commitment to the environment and its preservation and, in doing so, will contribute to a sustainable future for the planet.
Outlined below are some of the initiatives Hilton Whistler Resort & Spa is committed to, many of which encourage our guests to actively participate in lessening the impact of our hotel on the environment and ensure a sustainable future. We invite you to join us in this endeavor!
- For 2009, our hotel has a goal to reduce our energy and water consumption by 5% - All new team members receive environmental training through “eco-learning” sessions - An environmental committee made up of individuals representing all departments of the hotel has been assembled. This “Green Team” actively pursues new ideas to improve the environmental impact of our hotel - All cleaning, dishwashing and laundry detergents are being replaced by eco-friendly products - All of our toilets are economy flush units and our showerheads have economy fittings - We use low-energy light bulbs and fluorescent tubes on timers wherever possible and are in the process of replacing all of our incandescent bulbs - Sensor lighting used in various locations throughout hotel - All lighting, computers and other electrical equipment in the administrative departments are turned off at night - Whenever possible, articles of consumption are purchased in bulk to cut down on both packaging and transportation i.e. Ketchup, salsa, salad dressing, etc. - All take-out packaging has been replaced with biodegradable sugar cane containers - Travel coffee mugs have been purchased for all team members to be used in place of disposable paper cups - Cloth shopping bags have been purchased for all the team members in place of using plastic bags - Team members participate in Whistler Commuter Challenge-Highest participants in Whistler.
