This is the only property we currently have listed in Cape Elizabeth. The property has completed the iStayGreen Audit process. Inn By the Sea has been awarded a 3 Green Eco-Leaf Rating.
To qualify for the Green Eco-Leaf Rating Inn By the Sea completed an audit of their property's compliance with over 70 unique eco-initiatives. Environmentally friendly measures that are reviewed include energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, enviromentally safe cleaning, reduction of waste, ongoing maintenance, purchasing habits, plus many other factors. In it's efforts to create a more sustainable travel future and reduce their impact on our environment, Inn By the Sea employs 44 eco-initiatives.

Inn by the Sea is located on a mile of unspoiled sandy beach and works to preserve and protect the natural beauty of the setting. The Inn is surrounded by 5 acres of indigenous landscape, which reduces the need for chemicals and water, with gardens that provide food sources and habitat for local wildlife. The Inn gives "Bug's Life" classes to children to teach them about eco systems, and "Planting for Wildlife " seminars to adults. The Inns sheet and towel reuse program gives savings to Alternare which helps protect the endangered Monarch butterfly, and the gardner has milkweed and nectar gardens on site for butterflies. We are a certified wilife habitat and butterfly waystation. We clean with Green Seal product, built a full service SPA to Leed specification. The Inn has dual flush toilets, recycled sheet rock walls, recycled rubber floors in the cardio room, recycled cork floors in treatment rooms. Guests are wrapped in bamboo towels, amenities are natural marine based product. Our dining room has a farm to table menu and the local producers are listed on our menus, our kitchen recycles 100 % of the cooking oil into vehicles and food waste is sent to a local pig farm. We have a small garden on site. We use low VOC paint and carpeting as well as sealants and wall coverings, and the studs in the renovation were recycled. Over 75% of the renovation construction waste was recycled and not sent to landfill. Guests use recycled paper green keys. We heat with biofuel and solar panels. Our swimming pool is a salinated system which is healthier for guests. The inn recently installed digital thermostats and air to air heat exchangers to same energy. We support many local not for profits such as "Share our Stregnth", and Habitat for Humanity. We purchase green products whenever possible and support our local vendors. We adopted preserve, protect and inspire years ago, and inspire by giving lectures on sustainability all over the country, and giving seminars to adults on "How to Plant for Wildlife", offer green meeting suggested outlines to corporate groups and "White Weddings in Green" to perspective brides.
